Our First Day in Ireland! 5/15/23

Our plane landed in Dublin at 10:30 am after a pretty steady flight. Most students were able to catch some sleep while up in the air. We quickly went to grab our bags and hopped on a bus to take us straight to Belfast. The ride was exciting with views of grassy hills, flowers, fields and houses. It showed off Irelands beauty and made the bus radiate with excitement for our upcoming afternoon!

After our bus ride, we immediately dropped off our bags and got ready to go explore Belfast! Our hotel had most of us set up on the seventh floor, which had such a good view.
We split into a few group options since it had been a tiring travel day. Students were free to choose between their own activity or go to the Botanical Gardens. For those who chose the Botanical Gardens, they were absolutely stunning. Colors and flowers were shown all over including in areas to sit in like the rose garden and inside of the green house where plants who needed more temperature control could be found. The had ranges of flowers like gardenias along side thorny cacti and succulents. Outside there was a range of trees, many places to sit and relax and a lot of people could be found sitting on the grassy field and tanning or playing with a ball like rugby. It was absolutely serene and did wonders after a mindfully straining day of travel.

Unfortunately, the Ulster museum did end up being closed so we were not able to see it. We trekked back to the hotel, but took a second to admire the great statute called… The Big Fish. Also known as the salmon of knowledge. It's located right by the river. When it was looked up online, it appeared to have no purpose except to celebrate the regeneration of the River Lagan. It is a 10 m (32 feet) salmon and has beautiful scales comprised of different parts of Belfasts history. Some even kiss it for good luck!

Finally we had a group dinner together at Grannie Annie’s Kitchen, a small cute spot that had live music and great food and drinks. Some of us were sure to take advantage of two drinks for 10 special. Others happily enjoyed a nice Guinness!
